RACHMANINOFF & LIME CITY | December 6th at 7PM
Watts Hall, Thomaston ME Halcyon teams up with Down East Singers to present Rachmaninoff and Lime City. In addition to featuring selected movements of Rachmaninoff's Liturgy, this multimedia performance combines Halcyon's live music with synchronized film and historical context to celebrate the city of Rockland and reflect on how its maritime histories and many industries have shaped its people, land, culture, and identity throughout the decades. Musical selections feature Halcyon's arrangements of music by Erik Satie, Philip Glass, and Hildegard von Bingen paired with archival photographs and present day film footage of Thomaston and Rockland. CLIMATE ACTION IN ROCKPORT| March 30th Rockport Opera House, Rockport ME In partnership with the Rockport Conservation Commission, HP Environmental, and the town of Rockport, Halcyon will present a multimedia performance that communicates the findings from the town’s 2024 Climate Action Grant: A Social Vulnerability Assessment for Community Resilience. FIRESIDE SESSIONS | November 3 at 5PM Tenderwild Farm, Rockport, ME Celebrate the fall time with Halcyon at the gorgeous Tenderwild Farm. Fireside Sessions promises to be a cozy and festive evening of live music featuring the Danish String Quartet's arrangements of folk tunes from Scandinavia and Northern Europe alongside music by Caroline Shaw. The program will last just under an hour, the farm store will be open, and the woodstove will be burning! Tickets are suggested donation of $5-20, for more info, click here. |

Robinhood Free Meetinghouse, Georgetown, ME We're thrilled to return to the Robinhood Free Meetinghouse for Realized! Join us upstairs at 7PM for music and stop-motion film. The doors open at 6PM for food and drinks. Periwinkle Pie Co. will be back with their mouthwatering selection of hand pies available in a variety of savory and sweet flavors. LIME CITY | August 30 at 7PM
Steel House, Rockland ME Written and filmed by Luke Fatora, Lime City combines Halcyon's live music with synchronized film and historical context to celebrate the city of Rockland and reflect on how its maritime histories and many industries have shaped its identity. Performed at the water's edge with the Rockland Harbor as a backdrop, this performance will take place outside at the Steel House amphitheater in downtown Rockland. In addition to featuring folk tunes and music by Erik Satie, Philip Glass, and Florence Price, the performance premieres a new work by Rockland City Councilor, Nathan Davis. No tickets needed, admission is by donation. |

TO MAINE, WITH LOVE | Collaboration with Luke Fatora & Down East Singers | December 8 and 10
Thomaston | Rockport This collaborative project features the world premiere of Marianna Filippi’s To Maine, With Love, commissioned by Down East Singers in celebration of Maine’s bicentennial. Scored for string quartet, accordion, piano, and chorus, and with lyrics by Maine poet Megan Grumbling, the new work will be accompanied by synchronous film created by filmmaker Luke Fatora. Halcyon presents Gather at the Searsmont Town Library in Searsmont on Sunday, October 22 at 4PM. This multimedia performance combines recorded audio with live music to reflect on action, hopefulness, and imagination as it relates to the climate crisis. Having repeatedly heard from audience members that opportunities to focus on climate action are often missing from the climate crisis narrative, "Gather" explores these actions through music and the sounds of our community voices. In addition to featuring recorded testimonies, Halcyon will perform music that is joyful, contemplative, and nostalgic - reminding us of the power of a collective community. GETTING ONBOARD: Facing Climate Change in Waldo County | Thursday, October 19 | 7PM | Belfast Boat House, Belfast
In collaboration with ecologist Janet McMahon and Coastal Mountains Land Trust, this multimedia performance combines live music, imagery, science, and spoken word to explore the impacts of climate change in Waldo County. It examines landscape diversity, present and future climate projections, and ideas around increasing ecological and community resilience. In addition to a presentation by Janet McMahon and Halcyon's live string quartet music, the presentation will feature audio recordings of community voices as they collectively respond to the challenges and opportunities that climate change inspires. Halcyon joins this incredible lineup for an evening of music, poetry, art and advocacy. Join us alongside GRAMMY® Award-nominated producer/songwriter/performer Maggie Rogers on the Black Ram guitar, 2022 NPR Tiny Desk concert winner Alisa Amador, poet Beth Ann Fennelly, and environmental legends Bill McKibben, Terry Tempest Williams, and Rick Bass. The performance will benefit the creative grassroots environmental movement to protect the ancient “Black Ram” forest in Montana’s Yaak Valley as well as all remaining mature and old-growth forests on U.S. public lands. The Four Seasons | 2016 Six months before the concert, community members were invited to submit photos of the natural world in Midcoast, Maine. The images spanned all four seasons and were projected during a live performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Musicians shared their own stories and reflections of time spent in Maine throughout the performance. A Little Night Music | 2017 A Little Night Music was inspired by sunrises and sunsets. The project began with a workshop at Miller Elementary School. Josie and Sophie projected images of Waldoboro skies and played music while third grade students painted their most memorable sunrises and sunsets. The vibrant artwork was projected alongside paintings contributed by local professional artists while musicians played Mozart’s A Little Night Music in candlelight. Farm to Fiddle | 2018 Four local farms contributed images capturing the daily rewards and challenges of farm life. The program featured information about each farm and interviews with the farmers about how climate change is affecting their farming practices in rural Maine. Images were projected while musicians performed Tchaikovsky’s beloved Souvenir de Florence—a rousing, rustic, and joyful piece. A strawberry shortcake reception followed with berries donated by three local farms. |
