WHAT WE DO AND WHY
Halcyon uses music and the arts to promote environmental stewardship and respond to the urgency of climate change. Through interdisciplinary public performances that combine music and other art forms, we draw attention to the daily challenges, rewards, and realities facing communities. We acknowledge the need for creative and diverse communication that harnesses the power of cultural traditions, storytelling, music, and visual art to translate numbers and facts into something tangible and human.
We believe that music and art inspire us to notice, observe, and actively participate in our communities while acknowledging and protecting the natural environment that sustains them. We feel a strong sense of responsibility to respond imaginatively to what is arguably the most pressing issue facing our generation. We believe that music and art inspire us to notice and engage with the natural world in new ways. And that this in turn will lead to active stewardship of the places we call home.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
"I knew that your performance would evoke emotions for me and the audience, but I wasn't prepared for them myself. Even after years of looking at, interpreting, and sharing this data with communities throughout Maine, it still hits me hard every time." -Gayle Bowness (GMRI's Municipal Climate Action Program Manager)

"I'm still in a mellow glow from that wonderful evening of music. Halcyon is a true treasure, and made more so by the youthfulness of its members. Your group is astounding ... I marvel at the precision and the energy and the clever juxtaposition of pieces on your program." -Polly

“[The concert was] stunning in every aspect. In particular, of course, the Tchaikovsky miracle... a cascade of string ensemble, ballet, opera, symphony, in all their extremes while playing in the fields of farmers. Just ingenious of you to do that. You delighted and inspired, as you performed a service and made a statement. In this brief trek on earth, nothing finer exists.” -Rev. Ralph Moore

“In every way thematically, musically, inspirationally, and spiritually your musical celebration Farm to Fiddle was the distinctly finest performance in our many, many years of listening. Your interconnectedness of agriculture images with musical meaning was sublime.” -Val and Bobsy
